The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15 engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform from which to share professional interest. IEI has membership strength of nearly 0.7 millions. Established in 1920, with its Head Quarters at 8, Gokhale road, Kolkata-700020, IEI has served the Engineering fraternity for over nine decades. In this period of time it has been inextricably linked with the history of modern-day engineering. In 1935 IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains the only professional body in India to be accorded this honour. Today, its Quest for professional excellence has given it a place of pride in almost every prestigious and relevant organization across the globe. IEI function among professional engineers, academicians research works. It provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting service to the Government, industries, Academia and the Engineers fraternity, operating from over 100 centres located across the country. The institution has established R&D centres at various locations in the country and also provides grant – in aid to its members to conduct research and development on engineering subjects. IEI offers a non-formal engineering course, the successful completion of which is officially recognized as equivalent to a degree in engineering. Every year as many as 60000 candidates appear for these exams.


Tiruchirappailli Local Centre of the institution of Engineers (India) is located in BHEL Campus. Tiruchirappalli centre was inaugurated in the year 1973. Technical lectures are being conducted every week covering all branches of engineering. The Local Centre has been conducting on an average one National Seminar/Convention /Workshop every year on subject like Computer, Coal Technology, Cad, Pollution control, Integrated Manufacturing, Information Technology, Process control in Industries, ERP, ISO 14000, OHSAS, Energy Conservation, Sustainable development , NBC 2005 etc. The Local Centre has close liaison with leading engineering organizations, professional Institutions in and around Tiruchirappalli in the conduct of Technical activities.


Tiruchirappalli

Tiruchirappalli, more commonly referred to as Trichy/Tiruchy lies 320 km to the south of Chennai (The Capital of Tamil Nadu), on the banks of the river Cauvery. Trichy itself,has a long history, going back to the centuries before the Christian era , when it was a chola citadel, in the 12th century, chola's were subverted by the Vijayanagar kings of Hampi, who proudly withstood the invading Muslims. Less than fifty years later , the Nayaks of Madurai constructed the Rock Fort,and firmly established Trichy as the trading city. Tiruchirappalli has number of renowned education institution, prominent industries and many other small scale industrial estates. Tiruchirappalli is also a temple city. The famous temple are Rockfort Temple , Srirangam(sri Ranganathasamy Temple,) Thiruvanaikaval, samayapuram, vayaloor, etc; the famous St. John's Church and Natharvalli Dargah. Tiruchirappalli has some beautiful picnic spots like kallanai, Mukkombu, etc and a museum, it has a planetarium at Anna science park in Sembattu near Airport. Tiruchirappalli is connected by road to Chennai (320 km), Madurai (127 km) and to all major towns in south India by regular bus services. Tiruchirappalli, is an important junction on the Southem Railway. It connects Madras, Thanjavur, Madurai, Tuticorin, Tirupati, Rameswaram, Bangalore, Coimbatore, cochin and Mangalore on the broad gauge. Tiruchirappalli has International airport which serves Tiruchirappalli and adjacent districts in the state. Tiruchirappalli International Airport is the second biggest airport in Tamil Nadu after Chennai International Airport. AirAsia, Air India Express, Jet Airways, Malindo Air, SriLankan Airlines and Tigerair connect the city with various destinations.
